A renovation that involved us in many aspects, from the outdoor flooring to the bathrooms, but in this story we focus on the cellar area that we designed custom-made for this couple of Venetians who love good wine.

Custom-made project for a wine cellar

Hello! Today I will tell you how a very special project was born, which excited me and led me to design a custom-made equipped wall for storing wine bottles.
My clients, lovers of good wine, wanted to transform a basement room into a cellar to taste their favorite wines.

The dedicated space is long and narrow with a very high ceiling, a very specific configuration from which the need for custom-made furniture arose, capable of enhancing and making the most of all the characteristics of this room.
To contain the volume of the cabinetry, the ceiling was lowered with the idea of inserting rustic oak beams highlighted by dimmable LED profiles, lighting that made it possible to have a more intense or softer light depending on the need.

I recommended a porcelain stoneware floor, for ease of cleaning, chosen by the clients in the large 120x120 format and with a ceppo di grè stone effect in light and warm pinkish tones that makes the environment welcoming.

Central compartments and shelves

A small and necessary clarification: to create this custom-made furniture I proposed to work with Venetian briccola wood, a material originating from our region but famous all over the world of design for the originality of its perforated surface caused by small mollusks, the teredini, which in the lagoon carve this wood in a unique and unrepeatable way.

The central element has been equipped with 3 shelves made precisely with this eco-sustainable material, which have been well illuminated by two vertical LEDs and designed to display the most valuable bottles, almost like a real display case.

In the lower area, a large wooden door hides a more technical compartment to place boxes and containers of various sizes that we do not want to leave visible.

Shelves and side bottle holders

On the two sides of the central compartment I arranged vertical dividers in briccola made of horizontal oak slats that act as supports to place, laid down, bottles of various diameters and sizes; working with custom-made solutions allowed us to decide the overall dimensions and how many spaces to dedicate.. just think that all the dividers installed in this section can store up to 160 bottles!

Next to the wooden bottle holders, towards the outside of the furniture composition, we inserted storage columns that enclose inclined and illuminated shelves and open shelving with "X"-shaped elements, a typical cellar design to store wine bottles horizontally by separating them into 4 distinct inclined shelves.

The composition ends symmetrically on both sides with briccola shelves to give lightness to the wall, supports in which the insertion of magnum bottles and taller elements is planned.

Details, materials and lacquers

I leave you some shots of a few details from which the craftsmanship of the furniture and the dual finish used for the entire equipped wall can be perceived.
You can in fact see how the matte anthracite lacquer, very technical, contrasts with the Venetian briccola characterized by cracks and holes filled with black putty, processes that give a more material and distinctive touch to this natural material resulting from recovery and restoration by professional craftsmen.

The entrance door to this tasting and wine storage room has been matched with the furniture using the same wood made in Veneto and a dark-toned painted steel.
